Open-Air Exhibition All Year Round

Mayor Alexandre Painco and the municipal council invite you to discover the works of Zimmermann Urs, a former resident of Rennes-le-Château, displayed throughout the village and in the Abbé Saunière Domain Museum.

Born on May 11, 1954, in Zurich, Switzerland, Urs spent his childhood and adolescence in Uster, Switzerland, and pursued his education at the Zurich School of Art and the Budapest Academy of Sculpture. He began his career with wood sculpture and later perfected his craft in stone sculpture in Viterbo, Italy (Etruscan quarries in Viterbo and Sicily). In Zimbabwe, he learned to sculpt serpentine in Tengenege from local sculptors, which was a significant period in his life.

In 1990, he settled in Rennes-le-Château at a place called “Prat du Juge.” For Urs, stones were like living beings. He could see into their souls and thus liberate them through sculpture. He was known as the “seer of stones,” capable of sensing the energy flow between the stone, man, and his environment. Influenced by yoga and geomancy, he developed his unique style over the years. Urs passed away on April 25, 2022, at the age of 67. His strong and intense works remain alive in Rennes-le-Château.

MUSEUM EXHIBITION AT THE ABBE SAUNIERE DOMAIN

June 20 to October 30, 2024

A self-taught artist born in 1961, Richard Laillier held his first solo exhibition in 1986 at the Théâtre du Ranelagh in Paris.

Alongside drawing, he studied theater machinery and scenography for shows and exhibitions, which led him to collaborate with artists such as David Géry, Pippo Delbono, Philippe Decouflé, and Michel Haillard.

In 1994, Editions Jean-Pierre Faur published “Noires,” a mute book of erotic drawings, and in 1995, Tadeusz Koralewski became his first gallery owner. In 2007, he collaborated with Isabelle Horovitz and Pascal Fleury on “Quelque Chose de l’Enfer,” a piece for two dancers inspired by Dante’s Comedia and Vita Nuova. In 2012, during the performance festival Les Rencontres Improbables de Bayonne, they met Antoine Bataille and Vladimir Vatsev, with whom they created the Rhapsodies Bâtardes, performance shows that are still regularly presented.

In September 2015, the film “Corpus,” dedicated to him by Vladimir Vatsev, won the grand prize of the Jury at the first MIFAC – International Film Market for Contemporary Artists.

In 2021, he was among the six artists chosen by Point Rouge Gallery in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence to participate in the exhibition commemorating the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death and a reading of selected excerpts from the Comedia.

In 2023, the MamMuti gallery published interviews that began in 2016 with Michel Archimbaud. The release of this book, which includes about a hundred original drawings, was marked by an evening at La Maison de la Poésie in Paris, where Denis Lavant read from “The Assassination Theorem,” a collection of texts Laillier wrote alongside certain series of his drawings.

In 2023 and 2024, the Vellutini Gallery in Paris offered him the opportunity to present an in-depth exploration of the harmonic relationships that unite black and light, beyond the themes.
