How to get to Rennes le château

By car

From Carcassonne
Allow 50 minutes. Follow the D118 south, via Limoux, to Couiza. Towards the southern end of Couiza, turn left onto the D52, signposted Rennes-le-Château 4.5 km (2.8 miles).

From Perpignan:
Allow 1 ½ hours. Follow the D117 west, via Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, to Quillan, then the D118 north to Couiza. In Couiza, turn right onto the D52, signposted Rennes-le-Château 4.5 km (2.8 miles).

From Toulouse:
Allow 1 ½ hours. Follow the A61 motorway to Carcassonne, exiting at Junction 23. Follow the D118 south, via Limoux, to Couiza. Towards the southern end of Couiza, turn left onto the D52, signposted Rennes-le-Château 4.5 km (2.8 miles).

From Montpellier:
Allow 2 ¼ hours. Follow the A9 to Narbonne, then take the A61 to Carcassonne, exiting at Junction 23. Follow the D118 south, via Limoux, to Couiza. Towards the southern end of Couiza, turn left onto the D52, signposted Rennes-le-Château 4.5 km (2.8 miles).

By train or bus from Carcassonne

Take the TER (Regional Express Train) Line 11 that runs from Carcassonne, via Limoux, to Quillan. Descend at the station Couiza / Montazels (2 stops after Limoux). NB This train is often replaced by a red bus clearly marked TER.

There is no public transport from Couiza/Montazels to Rennes-le-Château, so you have the choice of a steep uphill walk (2.8 miles from the station) or a taxi.
